Professional Development

The Early-Mid Career Indigenous Faculty Leadership Development Program (IFLDP) is a blended, eight-month leadership training program designed to support Indigenous physicians as they navigate and shape academic medicine in Canada. Developed by the Indigenous Faculty Recruitment and Retention Working Group as part of NCIME Phase I, the program responds to the under-representation of Indigenous physician leaders in academia and practice; and provides culturally grounded training that reflects Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Doing, and Being.

The program begins with a two-day, land-based in-person session hosted at Membertou First Nation, followed by monthly online modules delivered through the NCIME Learning Management System. Each module builds on participants’ self-location in Indigenous identity, fostering continuous reflection while developing practical leadership skills. Areas of focus include professional identity formation, managing imposter syndrome, conflict resolution, academic governance, coaching, media engagement, and integrating ceremony and culture into professional practice.
