Working to advance Indigenous medical education every day
A Message from the National Consortium for Indigenous Medical Education Executive Committee
June 21, 2021
In partnership with Indigenous doctors and national medical organizations, the National Consortium for Indigenous Medical Education (NCIME) has taken its first steps to advance medical education and health care delivery in Canada.
Recently in the news, Canada’s history with Indigenous peoples has been a constant topic of conversation. The findings have served to educate many and have highlighted the overwhelming need to address the effects of colonialism in our country. The growing recognition that Canada’s reconciliation with Indigenous peoples is important, and overdue, reminds us that the work of NCIME is meaningful and necessary.
On this Indigenous Peoples Day, we want to reaffirm that we are all on Indigenous land, and we all deserve safe and equitable access to health care. The National Consortium for Indigenous Medical Education is committed to implementing Indigenous-led solutions in health care education and service delivery that will transform the future of health care for Indigenous peoples and all Canadians.
